BJP urges Guv to pursue ILP demand with Centre
A delegation of the state BJP led by its two legislators – AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai, has urged the Governor, Satya Pal Malik to take up with the Centre for immediate implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
“Since the government is going to Delhi very soon, we have requested him to take up the ILP issue with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah,” Hek, also cabinet minister, told reporters after the meeting held on Thursday.
Shullai also informed that the governor while assuring the delegation has suggested them to pursue the issue with the central government.
Asked, Shullai said that the party has from time to time not only made its stand clear on the ILP issue in the media but has also written to the Prime Minister on the need to implement ILP in the state.
With regards to the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020, Hek said that the governor has assured to look into the matter. “The governor informed us that he is studying the Bill as per provisions of the law,” he said.
On the other hand, Hek informed that the delegation has also sought the intervention of the governor into the issue related to the appointment of the new vice chancellor in the North Eastern Hill University.
“We have requested the governor to take up with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). We prefer that the Centre should appoint a qualified candidate from the state and if possible a female candidate as the new VC of NEHU,” he said.
