BJP’s decision to support NPP will help Congress win in Meghalaya: Pala
Congress chief and Shillong MP Vincent H Pala on Monday said that BJP’s decision to support the National People’s Party (NPP) will help him retain the Shillong parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, to be held on April 19.
“The BJP has gone to the NPP but the voters have now come to Pala. Around 80% of the BJP’s voters have come to the Congress. The voters are from both Khasi and Jaintia Hills region,” Pala said.
Stating that BJP’s supporters are not in favour of the NPP, the sitting Shillong MP said, “BJP supporters may not vote for Congress but they will definitely vote for Pala.”
“Therefore, it (BJP’s decision to support NPP) will not affect me, rather it will help me (win this election). It will help not because of BJP but because of the voters,” he added.
Also alleging that the NPP is now swallowing the BJP in Meghalaya, Pala said, “Before they thought that the BJP would swallow the NPP but now the NPP is swallowing the BJP. The power of the NPP is so high so now it is swallowing the BJP.”
Asked, Pala said definitely, the BJP is making a wrong decision by supporting the NPP.
“See the BJP are desperate to defeat the Congress by hook or by crook and NPP is also happy to get the support of the BJP but there’s a limit where you can compel your people beyond the line. NPP and BJP may be good at the high level but at a certain level, they will not compromise.
Because Amit Shah himself said that Meghalaya is the most corrupt state in India and how can they now support them (NPP)?” he asked.
