Blood Donation Drive held at WK Hospital to mark PM Modi’s birthday
West Jaintia Hills District joined hands with the rest of the country in the nationwide blood donation drive which began on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 72nd birthday on Saturday.
Organised by Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Centre, Jowai in collaboration with Woodland WK Hospital, Sabahmuswang, West Jaintia Hills District.
The blood donation drive was inaugurated by Shangpung MDC Treilang Suchiang along with Senior Medical & Health Officer, Incharge Blood Centre Jowai Civil Dr P Shylla in the presence of Medical Superintendent of Woodland WK Hospital Dr. D Das, Chairman Seng Samla Balang Catholic Mihmyntdu F Synnah among others.
Treilang Suchiang spoke on the importance of blood donation and urged for more volunteers to come forward to donate blood and save those lives that depend on blood transfusion.
Dr. P Shylla, Incharge Jowai Civil Hospital Blood Centre, informed that the day is important for the blood bank across India, each and every blood bank is holding a voluntary blood donation. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organised a countrywide mega blood donation drive ‘Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav’ till October 1, the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
She also appreciated the Woodland Hospital, Seng Samla Balang Catholic, Mihmyntdu, Jingiaseng Samla Presbyterian Church Jowai for joining hands to enable the blood bank to conduct this program together with the rest of the country.
Emphasizing, that blood is one of the most significant contributions a person can make to society, Dr. Shylla invited every healthy person not suffering from any disease who has reached 18-60 years of age, having a minimum weight of 45 Kg above and having hemoglobin level 12.5 minimum to donate their blood.
Informing that a male donor can donate after 3 months from the last donation of blood and in a year, he can donate 4 times and for a female donor can donate after 4 months from the last donation of blood and in a year, she can donate three times.
She added that donating blood will not only save a life it will also keep the body of the donor refreshed and healthy.
30 Donors were registered out of which 27 donated blood including 21 male and 6 female.
