Bodies of 2 Bangladeshi nationals detected near IB, BSF rejects killing allegations

Bodies of two Bangladeshi nationals were detected near the international border on Wednesday even as the Border Security Force has rejected allegations that they were killed on Indian Territory.

On receiving the information, a team of BSF from BOP Dona (East Jaintia Hills district) rushed to the spot to ascertain the facts on ground.

The area is secluded and no Indian goes there. Moreover, the place of occurrence is about 10 metres from the International Boundary (IB) inside Bangladesh territory.

Both the deceased have been identified as Askar Ali, a resident of Lohajuri (approx 2 km from IB) and Arif Hossain, resident of Mikirpara (approx 600 metres from IB) under Kanaighat police station in Sylhet district.

The BSF in a statement on Thursday said, “As per reliable source it appears that the incident might have occurred in Bangladesh due to some unknown reason and bodies were dumped near the IB to hide their misdeed.”

“A team of BGB party from BOP Donachera also arrived at the spot on November 4 for spot verification. They are however waiting for orders from their higher Headquarters for further course of action and disposal of the dead bodies,” they said.

Meanwhile, the BSF has termed the allegations by media houses as unfortunate.

“…unfortunately some media houses in Bangladesh have misinterpreted the facts, claiming that they were killed either by BSF or Indian villagers which is totally false and unfounded,” it said.
