Body of fifth miner trapped in EJH coal mine retrieved
SHILLONG: The Indian Navy has on Wednesday successfully retrieved the body of the fifth miner from the 370 foot-deep coal mine in East Jaintia Hills District.
“The Indian Navy today sucessfully retrieved the body of the 5th miner detected by the remotely controlled vehicle (ROV) yesterday evening,” operations spokesperson R Susngi said.
Susngi informed that the body was handed over to the police at about 2pm for further investigation and necessary action.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson further informed that the Coal India Limited continue dewatering for 36 hrs from yesterday evening till today evening 5pm and the discharged is 4860000 litres.
The KSB pumped out water for 32 hrs since yesterday evening till today 5 pm and the discharged is 6336000 litres, he said adding that the Kirloskar pump is pumping out water only from one pump since the other one developed some techmnical problem for the last few days and today the discharged is 2880000 litres.
The NDRF as usual provides assistance to the Indian Navy and other agencies with all the available resources, he said.
