Bomb scare at City Centre Mall in Guwahati, evacuated
The City Centre Mall in Guwahati was evacuated on Monday following an alleged bomb threat from a little-known insurgency group- KNR.
The management of the mall issued a notice citing a technical issue and announced a two-hour closure to ensure the safety of the customers and moviegoers.
“A thorough search was conducted in the premises. But nothing was found till yet,” said a senior official of the city police.
A bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were also deployed in the search operation.
The police immediately evacuated it due to an email received by the police. A notorious organization called KNR sent an email to the city police threatening to plant a bomb in the mall.
“We couldn’t take the threat lightly and cleared the mall of visitors. Search operations are underway with the help of bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. So far, nothing has been found,” he said.
The incident took place four days after the banned ULFA(I) announced planting 24 bombs in different parts of the state, including multiple locations in Guwahati.
Ten “bomb-like substances” have been recovered, including four in Guwahati, in the last two days.
The threat mail received on Monday was sent by an unknown organisation named ‘KNR’, the officer said.
