Bongaigaon district reviews road safety measures, targets accident prevention

The District Road Safety Committee, Bongaigaon, conducted a comprehensive review of road safety measures on Friday, focusing on implementing previous decisions aimed at reducing road accidents and improving traffic management. The meeting, chaired by District Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak, brought together key stakeholders from various departments to discuss ongoing and future safety measures.
The session began with a presentation by the District Project Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority, providing updates on road accident statistics and the effectiveness of past interventions. Key issues discussed included the removal of illegal open medians, concerns regarding rumble strips on highways, improvements in road signage clarity, and the need for an alternative route from Bongaigaon main town to Paglastan. Safety measures for the Chilarai Flyover were also deliberated.
The District Commissioner issued strict directives to address illegal earth cutting on government land, unauthorized sand mining from the Aie River, and the transportation of earth without valid challans. Additionally, he instructed the Excise Superintendent to intensify enforcement against the illegal sale of liquor at roadside dhabas to prevent accidents caused by drunken driving.
Superintendent of Police Mohanlal Meena assured that law enforcement authorities would take necessary action and asked officials to report any potential law-and-order issues to him and local police officers for prompt resolution.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from Railways, NHIDCL, NHAI, PWD (Roads), Forest Department (Aie Valley and Social Forestry), APDCL, AEGCL, the Excise Department, and local police officials, including Officer-in-Charges of various police stations.
