The book titled “In search of Green Awareness and practices” says about of late, there has been a considerable deterioration in the quality of the environment in Meghalaya. The major environmental problems result from population pressure, conversion of forest land into agricultural fields, shifting or jhum cultivation, deforestation, urbanization, mining and industrialization. The increasing anthropogenic stresses of various kinds are likely to further aggravate the environment in the future.
The only solution to avert this danger is sustainable development with the full participation of the public. One of the methods to reverse this trend undoubtedly is creating environmental awareness and educating the public.
The goal is to make people aware of and concerned about environmental problems and work individually and collectively towards solving current problems and preventing the occurrence of new ones. We cannot expect people to act in an appropriate way without being aware about the problems, their causes, the impact on our daily life and the long-term consequences. Hence, it was found appropriate to take up a study with regards to environmental awareness and practices in relation to intelligence and socio-economic status among secondary school students in West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya. The book will be useful for those readers who are concerned about our mother nature and its conservation.
