Boost for local beekeepers: Honey processing plant opens in Tynnai Village
Tynnai Village in South West Khasi Hills District celebrated the inauguration of a new honey processing plant, completed under the Apiculture Mission 2.0 at a cost of Rs. 30 Lakh. I. Lawrniang, BDO of Mawkyrwat C&RD Block, officially inaugurated the plant on May 22, in an event organized by the General Manager of the District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC).
Also present were D Kharjana, Deputy Director (Planning), M War, General Manager of DCIC Mawkyrwat, and G. G. Lyngdoh, Functional Manager of DCIC Mawkyrwat.
In his speech, Lawrniang praised the Tynnai Multipurpose Cooperative Society for their hard work and highlighted the collaborative efforts of DCIC and the Horticulture Department. He noted that Tynnai honey, known for its Grade A quality, would benefit from the new plant, boosting production and supply within and beyond the state.
Lawrniang also emphasized the importance of quality, marketing, and branding to increase demand and profits for local beekeepers.
D Kharjana highlighted the traditional roots of beekeeping and the government’s efforts to enhance livelihoods through apiculture initiatives. She noted that Tynnai was the only cluster among ten to successfully implement the project and urged farmers to utilize government-provided resources.
M War mentioned the 2022 MoU between DCIC and the Tynnai Cooperative Society, expressing gratitude to Chairman Twolding Jyrwa for his efforts. He emphasized the collaborative nature of the project’s machinery and equipment installation and expressed confidence in the plant’s success to boost the local economy and livelihood opportunities.
