Border panel in process of data collection for resolving dispute in Block I
The regional committee for West Jaintia Hills District headed by urban affairs minister Sniawbhalang Dhar held its first sitting on October 6.
Informing this on Wednesday, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the committee has discussed issues related to the block-I area and decided to collect data and information. “It will take some time but the process is on,” he said.
He said the committee will see that the border issue is resolved taking into consideration the concerns of the border people.
“Also both the state governments of Assam and Meghalaya have resolved to solve this border issue,” Rymbui said.
On September 26, the state government constituted three regional committees to examine the present status of the remaining six areas of difference shared with Assam and to submit their report within a period of 45 days.
The six areas include Langpih in West Khasi Hills District, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Deshdoomreah, Block-II in Ri Bhoi district and Block-I, Psiar-Khanduli in West Jaintia Hills district.
