Border panels may take time to submit report due to ADC polls, says Meghalaya CS
Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang on Tuesday said that the regional committees may take time to submit their reports on the remaining six areas of difference due to upcoming elections to the autonomous district councils (ADCs) in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
Addressing media persons, Wahlang said, “We have the committees but for the phase II, we have got extension till March 31 and we are hoping that the reports will be submitted by then.”
“But now with the announcement of the district council elections, the chairmen and members of the committees will be a little bit busy also with the campaigning and maybe they need a little bit more time but its on track,” he added.
On the status of the implementation of the decision taken in regards to the first phase of border talks with Assam, the CS said, “the finalisation for the erection of pillars is happening now at these places.”
“I have had meeting with the chief secretary of Assam and also in the meeting it was decided and chaired by the home secretary that happened in the month of November to review the finalisation of phase 1 of the boundary issue,” he added.
