Border security success: 115 arrested, Rs 11.7 Cr in goods seized in Meghalaya

The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier has reported a significant crackdown on illegal cross-border activities during the first quarter of 2025, apprehending a total of 115 individuals – including 78 Bangladeshi nationals and 37 Indian nationals for their involvement in smuggling and infiltration.
In a statement, the PRO of BSF Meghalaya said, “Despite many constraints, vigilant BSF personnel successfully foiled multiple infiltration attempts and apprehended 06 touts involved in facilitating cross-border movements, which further helped police and law enforcement agencies to take action.”
During the period, BSF Meghalaya launched intensified anti-smuggling operations, resulting in the seizure of contraband – including Yaba tablets, Ganja, liquor, clothing, cosmetics, and 750 cattle – valued at approximately Rs 11.70 crore. These goods were reportedly meant for illegal transport into Bangladesh.
The PRO added, “Many valuable links and inputs came to light during preliminary questioning of apprehended Bangladeshi nationals and touts. These inputs were subsequently shared with the state police and other law enforcement agencies with request for carrying out proper investigation and joint efforts to uncover the broader network facilitating illegal entry and operations across India.”
Besides its security duties, BSF Meghalaya also remained engaged in community welfare initiatives, organizing 22 Civic Action Programs and 13 blood donation camps, conducting free health check-ups, and distributing essential items in remote border villages.
Highlighting its commitment to coordinated border management, the BSF maintained active communication with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), conducting regular field commander-level meetings to resolve border-related concerns and discuss infiltration, smuggling routes, and the movement of criminal elements.
“BSF Meghalaya is committed to border security, cooperation, and community development,” the PRO affirmed. “We continue proactive efforts to curb smuggling and illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border and ensure zero tolerance against infiltration.”
