Bringstarwell sentenced to 25 years rigorous for impregnating a 13-year old girl

Bringstarwell Kharbani from West Khasi Hills District was convicted for offence of rape and criminal intimidation of a minor girl and sentenced to 25 years of rigorous with a fine of Rs.50,000/-.

Police said according to an FIR lodged on 23rd July, 2020, 13 year old daughter was found to be pregnant after she was sexually assaulted by Bringstarwell Kharbani.

A Case was registerd against the accused person vide Nongstoin P.S. Case No:31(7)2020 u/s 5(n)/6 POCSO Act and was endorsed to be investigated by WPSI D.P. Nongbri of Nongstoin Women Police Station.

The case was Charge sheeted by the investigating Officer under sections 506 IPC r/w Section 5(j) (ii)(l)(n)/6 POCSO Act.

Police informed on May 11, the Court of the Special Judge (POCSO), Nongstoin, on appreciation of all the evidences uncovered during the investigation, ruled the case against Bringstarwell Kharbani.

The Court convicted him and sentenced him to 25 (twenty five) years of Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs 50,000/-(Rupees fifty thousand) for the offence punishable under section 6 of the POCSO Act and for the offence punishable under section 506 IPC, punishment of simple imprisonment of 1 (one) year and a fine of Rs 1000/-(Rupees one thousand) was awarded. Both the served sentences are to run concurrently.
