Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home (Police), Prestone Tynsong, informed on Thursday that the investigation into the alleged attack by BSF personnel on a family in East Jaintia Hills District has been completed.
“The investigation is completed and is ready to be chargesheeted,” Tynsong stated in response to the call attention notice brought by VPP legislator from Mawlai, Brightstarwell Marbaniang, in the Assembly.
He informed that following the incident, a case was registered at Khliehriat Woman Police Station with charges filed under Sections 457, 236, 354, 384, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 7 and 8 of the POCSO Act.
He said that on June 20, 2024, the complainant and the victims were examined, their statements were recorded, and all necessary steps, such as medical examinations, visits to the place of occurrence, and the collection of evidence, were conducted as per the law.
The FIR lodged on June 20 stated that on the night of June 19, at approximately 11:30 pm, three individuals claiming to be BSF personnel forcefully entered a home. These individuals were armed with dangerous weapons, including a gun and a dao, and were dressed in civilian clothing. They broke into the house and attacked a family member, also taking an axe from the house and attempting to use it against them.
Despite efforts by the complainant and her 15-year-old daughter to disarm the attackers, they were overpowered. The assailants continued to beat the husband severely, resulting in a broken rib.
Later, around 12:30 am, the same individuals returned with a larger group of over 15 people and resumed their brutal assault on the father.
During the second attack, they forcibly took the phone from the complainant’s 15-year-old daughter and allegedly abused her. When the complainant attempted to protect her daughter, she was also assaulted. The attackers further threatened the family with firearms and warned them of future harm.
