BSF failed to defend Indian nationals in the international boundary along East Jaintia Hills: Santa
Sutnga Saipung Assembly Constituency Santa Shylla expressed concern over the failure of the Border Security Force (BSF) to protect the lives and properties of the local people from the intrusion of Bangladeshi Nationals to villages in East Jaintia Hills District along the international boundary of India Bangladesh.
This was stated by the first time legislator in her call attention motion to the news item published in “Syllad” dated 6th January, 2024 under the caption “Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals murdered Indian man for betel nut”.
Shylla informed that a group of 15-16 Bangladeshi Nationals intruded to Lumsoski village East Jaintia Hills District on January 6 this year and brutally murdered Chiang Dhar and seriously injured Rahul Pohtam.
She also said the Bangladeshi Nationals attacked the two Indians National while they guarding their betel nut plantation in Lumsoski village, which was adjacent to the India-Bangladesh’s border.
The Sutnga Saipung MLA said that the incident has created a sense of fear psychosis among the residents of Umkiang village and other villages in the border areas from going to their plantation areas adjacent to the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Shylla said that the ill fated incident occurred due to the failure of the BSF in carrying out their duties of protecting and defending the civilians from the intrusion of Bangladeshi Nationals to India.
She demanded that the BSF should adopt stringent measures to prevent the intrusion of Bangladeshi Nationals to India.
She also recalled that on July last year one woman was brutally murdered by Bangladeshi intruders in Dona village.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong while replying to the call attention motion raised by Shylla informed that the State Police department conducted an investigation into the incidents while the BSF held Flag Meeting with their Bangladeshi counterparts to prevent such incidents in future.
