BSF hands over 2 BD nationals to BGB
BSF Meghalaya Frontier handed over two Bangladeshi nationals to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) who had inadvertently crossed over to Indian as a goodwill gesture during a flag meeting at border area of BOP Laijuri, 97 Bn BSF under East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.
On March 8, BSF troops of Border Out Post Laijuri apprehended two BD Nationals inside Indian territory near Border Pillar No.1323/3-S while they had crossed the International Border inadvertently.
They were identified as Ahsan Habib Raju, (28) and Sandip Das, (34), , both of village Vishnupur, PS Kanaighat, Distt. Sylhet (Bangladesh).
In its efforts to maintain cordial relations between the two countries, BSF handed over the Bangladeshi nationals along with all recovered items to BGB after medical examination on proper receipt. Such actions would build confidence among the two Border Guarding Forces and improve bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Hardeep Singh, Inspector General Meghalaya Frontier said that, “Troops of 97 Bn BSF, posted at the BOP Laijuri, detained two Bangladeshi National inside Indian Territory at 1845 hrs on Monday. Normally, such trespasses are handed over to the local police station and prosecuted under the Foreigners Act. However, in some cases, where innocence is proved we make an exception and hand over such people back to the BGB as a goodwill gesture. BSF is committed towards maintaining good relations with Bangladesh and help the people residing on both side of the International Border.”
