BSF intensify anti-smuggling drive
The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified its vigil and stepped up anti-smuggling drive reviewing its domination plan to thwart smugglers continuing bids to smuggle various contraband items.
During the last week, various items worth Rs 89,88,951 were seized while 1 Indian and 4 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended for their involvement in smuggling activities.
The seized items include 71 cattle worth Rs 10,77,800, 14,312 Kgs dry peas at Rs 14,19,810, 102 liquor bottles at Rs 14,076, 8 vehicles at Rs 31,08,000 and miscellaneous at Rs 33,69,265.
Sh Hardeep Singh, IG Meghalaya Frontier said, “BSF is adopting minimum use of restraint while exercising its power to seize various items at border and have taken proactive measures to maintain a cordial relationship with the border population”. He also called upon all concerned to render their cooperation and assistance for effective border management.
It may be mentioned here that the BSF is responsible for guarding the 444 km stretch of Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
