BSF seizes Rs 49.5 lakh worth of cosmetics in Meghalaya
Acting on a specific tip-off, troops of the 04 Battalion BSF Meghalaya successfully intercepted an illicit consignment of cosmetic items worth over Rs 49.5 lakhs in the Nayabazar area of East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, near the India-Bangladesh international border.
The seizure, made on the evening of 25th January 2025, involved cosmetic products concealed in a jungle area close to unfenced patches of the border. These items were reportedly hidden by smugglers with the intention of transporting them into Bangladesh under the cover of darkness. The comparatively lower prices of these products make them highly sought after in Bangladesh. This demand has, unfortunately, led to recurring incidents of smuggling across the border.
The seized items have been handed over to the Customs Office at Pynursla for further investigation and necessary action.
The BSF remains steadfast in its commitment to curbing such illegal cross-border activities and safeguarding the nation’s interests. The BSF also urges residents of border areas to report any suspicious activities to local authorities and continue supporting efforts to maintain peace and security
