BSF’s vigilance in East Jaintia Hills thwarts cross border sugar smuggling; two arrested

The vigilant troops of 172 Bn BSF Meghalaya successfully intercepted a vehicle loaded with a substantial quantity of sugar intended for smuggling into Bangladesh on March 28, 2024.
The BSF also apprehended two Indian nationals near the Kuliang bordering area under the East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.
Acting on specific information, BSF troops identified and intercepted a vehicle loaded with 35,000 kilograms of sugar. The vehicle was coming from Ladrymbai and heading towards the Kuliang bordering area. Upon questioning, the driver and co-driver failed to produce any valid documents regarding the consignment of sugar.
The seized items and apprehended persons were handed over to the concerned customs office for further legal action.
