Budget comprehensive, forward-looking, says NE’s industrial and traders bodies
The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) has welcomed the Union Budget presented by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23 saying that the budget’s proposals will impact the industry and commerce in the northeastern region.
In a statement here on Tuesday, FINER president Bajrang Lohia appreciated the Union Budget, highlighting its comprehensive coverage of almost all sectors. He noted the importance given to education, employment, and skilling, and particularly appreciated the special focus on agriculture and infrastructure.
Lohia also welcomed the announcement of the UNNATI policy, viewing it as a significant step towards the development of industries in the region.
The FINER commended the finance minister for a comprehensive and forward-looking budget that addressed key issues and laid the foundation for robust economic growth and social development.
The organization remained committed to working closely with stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of these budgetary provisions are fully realized in the northeastern region.
To foster a deeper understanding of the budget’s implications, FINER organized a live viewing of the Union Budget at the NEDFi Conference Hall here on Tuesday.
The event witnessed NEDFi (North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd) acting as the knowledge partner, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the programme.
Reacting to the Union Budget, the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Assam and Meghalaya Committee has expressed its appreciation for the budget proposals highlighting its significant focus on the development of Assam and the Northeast.
ICC Assam and Meghalaya Committee chairman Sarat Jain commended the Union finance minister for recognizing the unique needs and potential of this region. “The 2024 Union Budget has laid a strong foundation for the socio-economic transformation of Assam and the North East. The allocation of funds and the proposed initiatives reflect a commitment to fostering growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life in these states,” Jain said.
ICC- North East Regional Council chairman Mahesh Saharia felt that the Union Budget 2024–25 represent the intent of the new Government the Roadmap for the pursuit of ‘Viksit Bharat’. Sitharaman announced that the Budget is focused on gareeb, women, youth and farmers. The Finance Minister announced plans to raise spending create jobs and provide relief to the middle class.
“There are 9 priorities for Viksit Bharat where the government emphasizes Productivity and resilience in Agriculture, Employment & Skilling, Inclusive Human Resource Development and Social Justice, Manufacturing & Services, Urban Development, Energy Security, Infrastructure, Innovation, Research & Development, next-generation Reforms,” he added.
