By poll in 5 seats of Assam: Cong to finalise list of candidates on Oct 19

The list of candidates for by-election to five assembly constituencies will be published on October 19, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah said here on Wednesday.

“Five sub-committees constituted for by-elections have submitted initial reports to us. We will start the candidate selection process at Rajiv Bhawan from noon of October 18 in the presence of AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh. Singh will also hold a meeting with Asom Sanmilita Mancha (ASOM) in the evening of October 18,” Borah said.

“AICC will take the final decision. We hope they will finalize the candidate by October 19. From APCC we will submit our final report to Jitendra Singh on October 18,” Borah also said.

He reiterated that Asom Sanmilito Mancha (United Opposition Forum) field consensus candidates in all five constituencies.

The Congress leader on Tuesday indicated that the CPI-ML is likely to field its candidate from Bihali in this by-election.

The by-election will be conducted in five constituencies- Sidli, Bongaigaon, Dholai, Samaguri and Bihali on November 13 and counting will be held on November 18.
