Cabinet approves amendment of MMCR, 2016
The state Cabinet has approved the amendment of The Meghalaya Minor Minerals Concession Rules, 2016.
After the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the amendment proposed is related to the inclusion of two more items in the rules.
He said extraction of minor minerals from agricultural fields for betterment of agricultural land was not included earlier in the rules.
“(However through the amendment), now any extraction of minor minerals be it boulders, be it sands, be it earth, it is allowed but it should be as per the prescribed norms or process of getting a mining lease or a quarry permit has to be done by the concerned stakeholders.”
Tynsong said the amendment also proposed to include extraction of minor minerals which are incidental in nature. According to him, any items which are considered to be incidental in nature, selling or transportation will be allowed.
