Cabinet approves Meghalaya Labour Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020
The state Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Labour Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
After the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the exercise was based on the instruction received from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
The Ministry has instructed the state government to carry out amendments of the Factories Act, 1948, Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 and Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
“Although related to central acts but since it is in the concurrent list, the state government has some say and the cabinet has approved the proposal for making some changes in the acts,” Tynsong said.
The amendment will be in the form of the Meghalaya Labour Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020.
According to the Deputy CM, the proposed Bill will be placed for consideration before the upcoming reassembled budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to be held from May 20 to 22.
