Cabinet approves new chairman of MSFC, chairperson, MSCPCR

The state Cabinet has approved the appointment of former chief secretary, PS Thangkhiew as the chairman of the Meghalaya State Food Commission (MSFC) and Iamonlang M Syiem as the chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR).

After the meeting held on Monday, government spokesperson and minister, James K Sangma said that the search committee has recommended the name of Thangkhiew, a retired IAS officer, as chairman of the MSFC.

This was after the former MSFC chairman, BK Deb Verma’s tenure came to an end with effect from February 2.

He said that the search committee also recommended the appointment of Dr Grenalin Marak, retired superintendent of Tura civil hospital as member of the MSFC from the medical profession and the renewal of the tenure of Ravi Gurng as member from the legal side.

The minister further informed that the cabinet has also approved the reconstitution of the MSCPCR and the appointment of Iamonlang M Syiem, a lecturer in the sociology department of St Edmunds as chairperson, which fell vacant in March, this year.

The names of six, including SD Massar, E Shylla, FP Marak, MK Marak, retired MCS, Tiana TD Areng and Dr Ibamon Laloo, were also approved as members of the commission, he said.
