Cabinet approves sanctioning of posts for 9 community colleges
JOWAI: The state government has approved sanctioning of posts for nine community colleges in the state.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma held in Jowai here on Tuesday. This is the second ‘cabinet on the move’ to be held outside the state capital.
After the meeting, education minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters that the government in its wisdom has decided to sanction posts for the nine community colleges also known as ‘people’s college’.
These include Nongstoin College, Ribhoi College, Nongpoh, Shangpung College, Tirot Singh Memorial College Mairang, East Jaintia College, Tura Christian College, Chokpot College, Ampati College and Nongtalang College.
“I am thankful to the government of Meghalaya under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma for taking up this bold decision inspite of the resource constraint faced by the state to provide grants to these colleges for the benefit of the students,” Rymbui said.
Asked, the minister said that the government will incur an additional expenditure of Rs 16.12 crore for extending the grants to these colleges.
He also informed that all the posts will be as per the state scale of pay.
