Cancel EOI for SIPPs: Opp to Govt
The opposition Congress has demanded the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government to immediately cancel the Expression of Interest (EOI) floated by the power department for implementation of “self identified power projects”.
Congress spokesperson Zenith Sangma in a statement issued on Tuesday alleged that there is another likely scam taking place in the power department in the name of Self Identified Power Project. The EOI for the same has already been floated, which is in a very suspicious manner.
Stating that people cannot travel to Meghalaya since inter-states and inter districts movements are restricted due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, Zenith said therefore, competition cannot take place and in the process, pre-selected firms will only be awarded with the project.
“It can be well understood that there is a malafide intention and is allegedly well-scripted modus operandi of these people who are in helm of affairs, scripted by someone who is from outside,” he alleged.
“We therefore demand that this EOI should be cancelled immediately in the greater interest of the state,” the Rangsakona MLA further added.
The Congress leader said that the opposition has been alerting the government by raising the issue time and again that due to mismanagement and deviating the focus of priority the MeECL is bleeding.
Also stating that the government should have taken proactive measures to stop or minimize the bleeding, Zenith said, “Now when it is too late, the Chief Minister is admitting that MeECL shall have a loss of ₹ 900 crores this year. But as per my humble calculation it will be more than ₹ 1500 crores.”
Meanwhile, Congress MLA expressed hope that the Additional Chief Secretary Rebecca V Suchiang as the newly appointed CMD of MeECL will get all the necessary supports from the government as well as from within the MeECL and decision in the state’s interest will get through in the Board of MeECL under her leadership.
