Cantonment to deal with encroachment issue heavily, installation of CCTVs at Lum Survey shortly

The Shillong Cantonment on Friday conducted a joint inspection with the district administration and local dorbar shnong at Lum Survey and identified areas for immediate installation of close circuit televisions (CCTVs) to keep a check on illegal activities.
Speaking to media persons, Cantonment’s chief executive officer (CEO) Ayush Maurya said, “We have done a joint inspection. We have identified all the areas where CCTVs can be placed.”
“Mostly, we have identified those places where illegal activities are going on and in a short while we will try to place CCTV as soon as possible,” he added.
He also informed that there are places where illegal people are settling and the board will try to look into that as well.
Asked, Maurya said all the encroachments will be dealt with very heavily.
“Notices will be issued, FIRs will be issued and action will be taken as per law,”he assured. He added, All the illegal settlers will be first given warning that they need to remove it. As per the rehabilitation Act, we need to give them some land and that we need to talk with the state government on how we can rehabilitate them.”
He said they have also identified some areas where parking issues are going on. “We need to involve SP traffic so one more inspection on traffic (will be done).”
According to him, installation of CCTVs will definitely play a vital role to ensure illegal activities in the area are monitored 24/7.
He said that the cantonment would also be using all resources to clean all the vegetation and try to make it a good revenue source through parking facility.
“We will charted a plan after this particular inspection and within one month you will see the difference,”he added.
