CBI officer among 37 new COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya, tally at 1,179
Thirty-seven more persons, including a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer, have tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the tally of active cases in the state to 656.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said of the 37 new cases, 23 are from East Khasi Hills district of which one is a CBI inspector from Upper Mawprem, one is a wife of a doctor at the Nazareth hospital, one staff at NEIGRIHMS hospital, two are positive patient attendants in Robert hospital and Shillong civil hospital, two are returnees from Karnataka and Assam, 2 are contacts of positive cases in Shillong civil hospital, 3 are contacts of NEIGRIHMS case, 9 Border Security Force (BSF) troopers and 2 Armed Forces personnel.
He said that the other positive cases detected today include 10 BSF troopers in West Garo Hills district, an ambulance driver at Kharkutta Primary Health Centre (PHC) in North Garo Hills district, a returnee from Assam in Ri Bhoi district, returnee from Assam in East Jaintia Hills and a person who travelled to Mahendraganj in South Garo Hills district.
Dr War also informed that seven more patients have recovered from the infection today, taking the total recoveries in the state to 517. The new recovered cases include 3 in East Khasi Hills, 2 in West Khasi Hills, 1 in East Jaintia Hills and 1 in Ri Bhoi.
Of the 656 active cases in the state, the Director said East Khasi Hills has 445 cases which include 277 civilians, 97 BSF troopers and 71 Armed Forces personnel.
There are 93 cases in Ri Bhoi, 82 in West Garo Hills, 16 in West Jaintia Hills, 6 in East Jaintia Hills, 5 in North Garo Hills, 3 in West Khasi Hills, 3 in South Garo Hills and 2 in South West Khasi Hills.
As of Wednesday, a total of 42,084 samples have been sent for testing of which 40,611 were found to be negative while test results of 294 are awaited. There are 27,290 entrants from outside the state till date, he said.
The state has so far registered a total of 1,179 COVID-19 positive cases including 6 deaths.
Meanwhile, a total of 35 areas in various localities of Shillong have so far been declared as micro containment areas after detection of positive cases and high risk contacts.
