Centre awaiting inquiry report into NEHU issue: Hek
The Centre is waiting for the report of the two-member committee probing into the allegations against the incumbent vice chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) relating to mismanagement and administrative failures before taking a decision on the matter.
This was informed by BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Thursday, after recently led a party delegation and met the Minister of State for Education in New Delhi.
“We (delegation) have briefed him (MoS) and submitted a letter in regards to the NEHU issue. They know very clearly (on the issue) and had accordingly sent a two members to inquire into the matter. They are now waiting for the report,” Hek told reporters.
“As far as my knowledge goes, the report is completed but is yet to be submitted (to the ministry),” he said.
Asked on the demand for removal of the VC, Hek said almost all the stakeholders of the university right from the students’ body (NEHUSU), teachers’ association (NEHUTA & MeTTA) and non-teaching staff (NEHUNSA) have submitted petitions against the present VC.
“So if their (stakeholders) is true, if you are keeping the same VC then the work culture will no longer be smooth in NEHU,” he stated.
This came days after the students had temporarily suspended their indefinite hunger strike that lasted 16 days demanding for the immediate removal of the VC.
All the stakeholders have also met the two-member committee appointed by the Ministry of Education and sent a clear message to the Centre that returning of the incumbent VC would be unacceptable to them.
