Centre sanctions Rs 1,056.82 crore for rural connectivity projects in Meghalaya
In a major step toward improving rural connectivity and boosting economic development in the North-Eastern region, the Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned 88 roads covering a total of 782.155 km and 55 bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III for Meghalaya. This ambitious initiative comes with an estimated investment of Rs1,056.82 crore.
Earlier, the Ministry had already approved 55 roads measuring 443.26 km under the same scheme, with a sanctioned investment of Rs 412.34 crore.
The approved projects under PMGSY-III are expected to significantly enhance access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and markets for rural communities. By improving connectivity between remote villages and urban centres, these projects aim to bridge gaps in infrastructure and stimulate local economies.
Additionally, the initiative will create employment opportunities, boost trade and commerce, and contribute to the broader vision of a prosperous Northeast and a developed India (Viksit Bharat).
These developments are set to have a transformative impact on Meghalaya, aligning with the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development in the region.
