Charge sheet filed against church chowkidar for misusing over Rs 3 crore
The state police has filed charge sheet against a chowkidar of the Mawkhar Presbyterian Church for his alleged involvement in siphoning off money of the church amounting to over Rs 3.26 crore since 2013.
The matter came to light following the audit conducted by the church in 2019.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said a written FIR was received on August 3, 2019 that a fraud was detected by the church committee which has been going on since the year 2013.
The fraud was suspected to have been committed by the treasurer of the church who has been entrusted for the post since 2009 till date and aided by the church chowkidar Allfas Bareh, residing at Mission Compound, in depositing the money collected every Sunday from the members of the church in the State Bank of India, Bara Bazar.
An FIR was registered with the Lumdiengjri police station.
During the course of investigation the accused Allfas Bareh, church chowkidar was arrested for his involvement in the misappropriation of church money.
“…in this regard the 1st charge sheet has been filed. The investigation will however continue to ascertain whether there is complicity of others in the crime,” the SP said.
