Charles Pyngrope appointed as AITC state president
Former Assembly Speaker and Nongthymmai legislator Charles Pyngrope on Monday was appointed as the state president of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in Meghalaya.
His appointment was approved by the AITC supremo Mamata Banerjee during a meeting held at Kolkata.
Mamata also met the 12 MLAs led by former chief minister of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma, who was recently elected as the legislature party leader of the AITC, in the presence of the party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Speaking over phone, Mukul Sangma informed that they have requested the AITC chairperson to consider their proposal to appoint Pyngrope as president of the state unit.
“We proposed this to be considered and she has considered and confirmed,” he said. According to him, a similar proposal was also made by them when they were in the Congress.
The LP leader further informed that the constitution of the whole state unit will be completed in consultation among the members.
When asked, Mukul Sangma said, “Don’t ask for a specific time as it will be an exercise since we are trying to do something pertaining to the constitution of the whole state committee for a party which is being adopted rather it is more like a new beginning is being made. So it will take little time as we will discuss, consult and look at all our friends who are available and aggregate our strength accordingly.”
