Children’s Day celebrated with ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ message in Jowai
The Office of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Jowai under the Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the District School Education Officer, West Jaintia Hills, celebrated Children’s Day at the District Library Mynthong, Jowai under the banner ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ with the message “The Children of today will make the India of Tomorrow.” Local MLA and Chairman of Meghalaya Urban Development Authority, Wailadmiki Shylla, was the Chief Guest.
Addressing the students, Wailadmiki extended his warm wishes to the students on the occasion of Children’s Day. He emphasized the importance of education, hard work, and determination and encouraged the students to dream big and believe in themselves. Highlighting the theme under the banner “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” he stressed the importance of education for every child, particularly for young girls. Shylla also commended the effort of the DHEW for organizing the programme.
Wailamiki urged the students to make use of the opportunity they have, stay focused, and strive to set an example for others. He also extended his best wishes to all students appearing for the upcoming exams.
B. Blah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jowai, spoke on the significance of Children’s Day celebrated on November 14 in honor of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. Nehru’s vision for children emphasized the need for love, respect, and opportunities for all.
She highlighted that Children’s Day is not just about celebration but also a reminder to society to focus on the rights and wellbeing of children. She stressed the importance of ensuring equal opportunities in education, career growth, and development, particularly for girls and marginalized children, to create a brighter future for the nation.
A.P. Syiem, I/c District School Education Officer, Jowai, and Y. Najiar, District Social Welfare Officer District Nodal Officer DHEW, Jowai, shared inspiring words and encouraged the students to strive for excellence.
S. Lakiang, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Ambassador, DHEW WJH, shared her inspiring journey and experience in sports. She spoke about her success at the WFF India 2023 Mr & Ms East India 2023 Zonal Body Building & Fitness Champion held at Ranchi, Jharkhand and her achievement at Mr and Mrs India 11th National Body Building & Fitness Champion 2023 held at R.B. Dangayach Auditorium, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Encouraging the students, Lakiang highlighted the significance of sports and that being involved in sports not only improves physical fitness but also strengthens emotional resilience and overall well-being. She emphasized the value of time management and hard work, advising the students that dedication to both is key to achieving success in sport and life.
S. Lakiang, along with other students who have excelled in sports and academics, was felicitated by the office in the programme today.
