Christian NGOs distributes food in Shillong
The Shillong YMCA in collaboration with Y’s Men International, National Council of YMCAs of India and the YMCAs North East India Region distributed essential food commodities like rice, potatoes, onions, salt, etc to more than 350 children under the 24hrs Crisis Management Centre for Children at Nongmensong, Shillong on Saturday which also marks the National Christian Day.
The Covid -19 Relief Support, as part of the “Heal the World” project, was led by the President Most Revd. Dr. P. Lyngdoh, the Hony Secretary Mr. D.L. Warjri and accompanied by members of the Boards of Directors of the YMCA Shillong. The newly elected Regional Secretary of YMCA NEI Mr Shamir Thabah was also present. This project was funded by the National Council of YMCAs of India.
Rev R.G. Laloo, President of the Reach Shillong Ministries (RSM), welcomed the initiative of the YMCA Shillong during these difficult days of the pandemic. The RSM with the mission ‘Reaching People, Touching Lives’ is supporting children in need of care and protection, of destitute women, of young people in Shillong in need of direction and fellowship. RSM has an Open Day Shelter, Children’s Home, besides out of school programme, vocational training, Swadhar Greh -a home for distressed women and an adoption centre.
Rev P. Lyngdoh, spoke on the theme ‘ heal the world’ where society finds ailment not literally on health but metaphorically to heal people and society from the bondage of poverty, alcoholism, substance abuse, isolation, hatred and many social ills, and each has a part to this healing process.
