Christians joined hand in ensuring inauguration of Niamtre’s Crematorium
Exemplifying the spirit of cultural oneness amidst religious differences, the people of Mowtyrshiah B belonging to Christianity and Niamtre joined hand in the inauguration of the Eco-friendly Crematorium for the Niamtre faithful.
Mowtyrshiah –B is one of the villages under Laskein C&RD Block, West Jaintia Hills and under Mowkaiaw A/C and Mowkaiaw MDC Constituency.
Designed by Late Kambel Shullai, the construction of the Crematorium was started by the Mowtyrshiah Sein Raij Committee after receiving the NOC from Sein Raij Jowai as well as from Dorbar Shnong Mowtyrshiah-B.
The Crematorium is constructed at a total cost of Rs 27 lakhs, out of which Rs. 10 lakh is received from the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) during the tenure of former Mowkaiaw MLA Robinus Syngkon while another Rs. 10 lakhs is from Chief Ministers Special Rural Development Fund (CMSRDF) under the tenure of present MLA Nujorki Sungoh and an amount of Rs. 7 lakh is a contributed by the villagers and well wishers.
Sein Raij Jowai (SRJ) President O. R Challam said, “The unity of this village is a good example of a secular democratic India.” He also said that in order to promote a clean environment and control spending, these crematoriums are necessary to be built in the state.
This statement from Challam assumed great significance in awake of the present controversy regarding non issuance of NOC by some village bodies for construction of cremations to Seng Khasi and Niamtre.
Challam informed that the High court of Meghalaya has given directives to meet with the leaders of traditional faith (Niam Tynrai/ Niam Tre) to allow the constructions of crematoriums in the state”, he added. He showered words of appreciation to the village for being a role model for other villages to construct the cremation grounds and to promote secularism in the state.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Nujorki Sungoh appreciated the Mowtyrshiah Sein Raij Committee, the different religious faiths and individuals involved in the construction of the crematorium. He also informed that the internal road to the village will be constructed soon under the RIDF Scheme.
The members present at the programme were former MLA and MDC Robinus Syngkon, who is the guest of honour, local MDC Winning Garland Sungoh, Dolloi Elaka Jowai Puramon Kynjing, Dalloi Elaka Raliang Chawas Lyngdoh, President and Secretary of Seinraij Mowtyrshiah, Waheh Shnong Mowtyrshiah and local residents.
