CM confident of completing infrastructures for hosting National Games
Despite the ongoing National Lockdown against COVID-19, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday boasted that government will continue to ensure that the infrastructures are completed on time for hosting the National Games 2022 in the state.
“We continue in our efforts to ensure all the works that is there required for the National Games are completed on time. Yes, we have lost few months but I am still hopeful that from the infrastructural point of view, we will be still be create the infrastructure on time,” Sangma told reporters.
The CM also informed that the government will be able to finish all the necessary formalities and allotment of works for implementing the projects for the National Games within a month or 45 days time.
Sangma however said that sporting events are going to be a challenge now. “Regarding (hosting) the games, it is not something which is in our jurisdiction as such. For that, we will have to wait for the (decision) of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and also Government of India,” said the CM.
Sangma also admitted that the state is facing a lot of challenges in term of developmental projects, social schemes and other infrastructural projects owing to the prevailing crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He however said that the government has decided to provide some relaxation and construction works has started in the state.
“Construction works has started and I hope that we will be able to pick up those projects but we still need to make sure that lot of the protocols are maintained during such activities,” he added.
