Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) national president Conrad K Sangma has expressed confidence that his party would return to power with an absolute majority in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

“…we are hopeful that we will be able to get a full majority in this election,” Sangma said after casting his vote on Monday.

He said that the voters’ turn out was good across the Garo Hills region. “Tura is also seeing much better response compared to what it was last time with only 25 percent turnout,”Sangma said.

The chief minister also claimed that the NPP was able to get a positive response from the people of Garo Hills during the election campaigning.

In the state capital, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong also expressed confidence that the NPP will do well in the GHADC polls. “We will be able to get a minimum of 18 seats (in the 30 member House),” he said.
