CM Elevate Conclave held in Shillong and Tura with thrust on 10 billion dollars economy
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is on a high as he reiterates the government’s mission to take Meghalaya to be among the Top 10 states in the country with the goal to make Meghalaya a well-developed state.
The government held two CM Elevate programmes – one in Shillong and the other in Tura on March 12 and March 13 respectively.
In his address to the gathering in Tura, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, said that the vision and mission of the government to have a 10-billion-dollar economy by 2028 and make Meghalaya at par with other developed states of the country.
“If we don’t move forward with this aim, we will not be able to progress and develop nor will our economy grow,” he said.
He added that economy will grow in its true sense if the youth, women, farmers, entrepreneurs, and every section of the society are a part of the growth story.
The Economy
The CM pointed out that in the last one and a half years the economy of the state has increased 45 thousand Cr to 56 thousand Cr and stressed on the need for improved investments and expenditure to improve the economy.
Talking about the CM Elevate program the Chief Minister informed that it is an aggressive program of the government to create a conducive environment for entrepreneurs to grow and flourish through financial assistance, entrepreneurship development and creation of jobs.
“The CM Elevate is an example of the commitment of the government to further the ambitions of our youth and entrepreneurs by providing the resources to transforms their ideas into successful ventures,” he said.
He informed that under the different schemes of the CM Elevate program the beneficiaries will receive a subsidy of 50 per cent or more of the total project cost.
Informing that the CM Elevate program will continue every year, he urged the youth to take benefit of the program. “CM Elevate is program that will not facilitate your businesses, passions and dreams but will enable you to be job providers instead of job seekers,” he added.
Floriculture
He also spoke about the Floriculture Mission that was launched recently adding that this mission will bolster floriculture in the state. He also informed that the IT Park in Tura for which work order has been handed over will create 5000 jobs for the youth of Tura and Garo Hills region.
The Chief Minister and the other dignitaries later distributed sanction letters to beneficiaries of Agri-Response Vehicles, Agri-Warehouse, Common Facility Centre, Piggery, Poultry and Goat Farming schemes under CM Elevate. Sanction letters under the Floriculture Mission were also distributed during the occasion.
At CM Elevate programme, held in the state’s capital, the CM informed that in the initial phase 3,100 beneficiaries and a projected budget of 240 Cr over three years the mission aims to establish Meghalaya as a floriculture hub.
Village Data Volunteers (VDVs)
The Chief Minister also distributed the appointment letters to Village Data Volunteers (VDVs) and emphasised on the importance of the VDVs embodying a transformative approach towards community development in Meghalaya focusing on empowerment, efficiency, and evidence -based governance.
Speaking about the Village Data Volunteers (VDVs), whom he called the ears and the eyes of the government, the Chief Minister said that there is a need for timely and doorstep delivery of government services to every citizen and even at the grass roots level.
The VDVs will provide services to citizens at their doorstep besides collecting data required for government decision making acting as a trusted intermediary between the government and the community, fostering good governance, accurate data collection and efficient service delivery so that development is visible and equitable.
The appointment letters were also distributed to the VDVs.
Scientific landfill at Tura
Handing over the Work Order for Bio-Mining of the waste at the dumping ground at Rongkhon Songital, Tura he said that the with the setting up of the scientific landfill the 50,000 MT of waste at Rongkhon Songital will be recycled. He also informed that the 4.5 Cr project will within 12-18 months will recycle the waste improving the dumping ground that has become a problem and an eye sore for the residents of the area.
“We started off with a mission of making it to the Top 10 states, then we moved forward with a vision of achieving the target of 10 billion economy and then added 10 opportunities and identifying ten sectors that will be drivers of growth and employment,” he said.
At the Shillong CM Elevate conclave, the CM informed that 1254 beneficiaries amounting to approximately 56 Cr will be benefitted through various schemes of the CM Elevate program thereby creating about 50,000 jobs.
Launching the Meghalaya State Floriculture Mission during the occasion, the Chief Minister said that it significant and a major step towards agricultural prosperity and rural development.
The Chief Minister and the other dignitaries distributed cheques and sanction letters to beneficiaries of Prime Agriculture Response Vehicles, Piggery Development, Poultry Farming, Goat Farming, Common Facility Centre, Agriculture Warehouse schemes under the CM Elevate program. Sanction letters under the Meghalaya Floriculture Mission were also distributed.
The Mission Document of Meghalaya State Floriculture Mission and Meghalaya GDP Vision 2028 were also released during the occasion.
