CM lauds step taken by Mawtharia in handling COVID-19 situation
A remote village in East Khasi Hills District has decided to extend full support to the family of a COVID-19 patient, who have been asked to be under strict home quarantine.
Lauding this bold decision, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the step taken by the headman and people of Mawtharia village, Pomlakrai under Myllliem block is a great example and inspiration for others to follow.
“This truly highlights the community spirit of the people of our state,” he said.
Sangma said one of the 10 positive patients is from this village. The patient is also one of the primary contacts with the first COVID-19 patient, (L) Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang, who passed away on Wednesday.
The CM said in view of this, the executive dorbar of the village has resolved to provide all necessary support to the family of the person, who has been tested positive for COVID-19.
He said the village has decided that they will take care of the household in terms of essential commodities as the family are in home quarantine and cannot come out to buy ration and food.
“This is wonderful story of how a headman and the villagers came together to really handle the situation. I think this is an example that must be followed and replicated in the future if such incident happen in any other parts of the state,” added the CM.
Meanwhile, Sangma further informed that the health department has also taken samples from the 36 primary contacts of the positive individual and results are awaited.
Earlier, the health minister AL Hek has also visited Mawtharia and met the headman and other elders of village.
