CM review state’s preparedness to deal with post lockdown situation
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday reviewed the preparedness of the state to handle the situation post lockdown.
The meeting was also attended by the Health Minister AL Hek, Commissioner & Secretary of Health department, Sampath Kumar, DHS (MI) Dr Aman War, Medical Superintendents of Shillong Civil Hospital and Ganesh Das Hospital and others.
Addressing media persons, Hek informed that the meeting has discussed the preparation of the state to handle the situation post lockdown as well as movement of citizens including students, who are stranded in the North East states and other parts of the country.
“We have reviewed the preparation for monitoring the return of our citizens, who are stranded in different NE states. Issues relating to quarantine centres and hospitals were also discussed,” he said.
According to him, a total of 6390 have so far expressed their desire to come back to the state and have registered online with the government.
“It is not easy to put all of them in quarantine centres. Therefore, we have decided that those who do not have any symptoms will be asked to go for home-quarantine. However, for those who do not have proper space in their homes, they will be taken care by the government,” he said.
Asked, the health minister said the government has already set up quarantine centres in all the eleven districts.
“We have also put on requisition many guest houses, hotels and government buildings (to be converted into quarantine centres) to ensure that the state is ready to handle any challenges after the lockdown period ends,” he said.
Hek further informed that the government is yet to know how many stranded citizens will require to be home-quarantine or institutional quarantine.
