CM Sarma, Dilip Saikia launch BJP’s full-throttle panchayat poll campaign across Assam

With Assam’s two-phase Panchayat elections slated for May 2 and May 7, the BJP-led NDA alliance has kicked off a high-intensity campaign to secure a decisive mandate across rural Assam. Leading the charge are Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP President Dilip Saikia, who are both set for an aggressive ground-level outreach aimed at energizing party workers and voters alike.
CM Sarma is scheduled to address 27 public rallies, while Saikia will lead more than 50 campaign meetings across key constituencies. The BJP’s campaign is marked by strategic coordination, strong messaging, and visible leadership—setting a sharp contrast against a disjointed opposition still grappling with internal instability.
At a recent meeting with party workers, Saikia called for total dedication across all organizational levels. “Every karyakarta has a role to play. This election is not just about winning seats, but about empowering local leadership and ensuring grassroots development,” he said. Saikia also stressed that genuine, respectful alliances are the backbone of democratic strength, indirectly criticizing the opposition for what he called “confused alliance politics.”
Of the 397 Zila Parishad constituencies, BJP has announced candidates for 318 seats, with 74 seats going to alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). The remaining seats have been amicably distributed among other NDA partners after thorough coordination at both mandal and district levels.
In a move underscoring the party’s focus on women’s political participation, 176 Zila Parishad seats have been allocated to women, including 4 of the 5 seats declared in the latest list. Seat-sharing for the 2,157 Anchalik Panchayat constituencies has also been finalized, following detailed deliberations with local units.
The announcement of candidates has already galvanized momentum on the ground, with several nominees filing their nomination papers. Booth-level preparations are in full swing, as workers shift gears from candidate selection to campaign execution.
With senior BJP leadership personally steering the campaign, the party is positioning itself not just as a frontrunner, but as a disciplined and development-driven force ready to deepen its roots in rural governance. The message from the BJP camp is unambiguous—they’re mobilized, unified, and ready to dominate at the grassroots.
