CM to critics: Festivals are a way to earn livelihood
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has lashed out at naysayers for not focussing on the positive aspect of festivals.
There have been criticisms alleging that holding festivals are a financial burden.
Speaking on the concluding day of the Monolith Festival, the CM said, “There are some among us who will criticise even festivals like these. And it is quite sad to see that when we are celebrating our culture, when we are celebrating who we are, why should there be criticism about festivals like these? In fact, we should be organising more and more of these festivals.”
He added that apart from celebrating the culture, he urged the audience to look at the amount of employment generated through these festivals whether the performers, servers.
Coincidentally at the moment, a chanawalla who was strolling the venue was called by the CM.
“I have even seen one particular fellow, there he is, distributing and selling chana, isn’t this amazing.” The CM proceeded to call him to the podium, “Wan, wan. Wan shane. Phi kyrteng kumno?” (Come come, come here. What is your name?).
Sangma said that it is wonderful to see youngsters working hard and earning a livelihood.
