Collaborative efforts shine: Second PMAY-G house handed over in West Jaintia Hills
On the afternoon of January 26, 2024, the dreams of Lily Tariang in Hawai Bhoi village, Amlarem C&RD Block, West Jaintia Hills District, became a reality. In a heartwarming ceremony, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director of DRDA West Jaintia Hills, FB Basan, along with collaborators, handed over a newly built house to Lily Tariang.
This significant milestone was achieved under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), with support from the Jaintia Hills Development Society through KHUBLEI Germany and various stakeholders contributing a total of Rs. 3,32,000. Contributions under PMAY included Rs. 1,30,000, MGNREGA Rs. 22,000, KHUBLEI Germany Rs. 1,70,000, and Pynskhem Village Organisation (VO) contributing Rs. 10,000.
The newly constructed house will provide a home for Lily Tariang, her husband, and their three grandchildren who, unfortunately, lost their mother and are now under the care of their grandparents.
The ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director DRDA FB Basan, MCS, SDO Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Amlarem Dr. Abhishek Saini, IAS, Assistant Commissioner and Amlarem C&RD Block Development Officer Shri G.L.C Mylliem, JHDS Director Fr. Manbha Pakem, staff of MSRLS, members of SHG and villagers.
FB Basan highlighted that PMAY (G) is a flagship mission of the Indian government, aiming to provide housing to the rural poor. He shared that houses are being constructed under this program and handed over to beneficiaries. This collaboration marked the second house with JHDS, following the first one in Moosakhia Village handed over on December 23, 2023.
Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, unity, and collective effort for progress and growth, Basan reminded everyone of the significance of Republic Day—a day to embrace new possibilities and move forward.
He expressed gratitude to KHUBLEI Germany through JHDS for their generous contribution, hoping for continued collaboration in building homes for the less fortunate. Recognition was also given to the Block Development Officer, Amlarem, village leaders, and Village Organizations (VO) for their valuable contributions, allowing the construction of this house in just 90 days.
In closing, Kong Lily and her husband extended profound joy and heartfelt gratitude to their generous benefactors.
