Commence repair of NH-6 in East Jaintia Hills within 15 days or face road blockade: JAC

The Joint Action Committe of Eleven Dorbar Shnong in East Jaintia Hills District has issued a deadline of 15 days for commencement of repair of NH-6 failing which they will be compelled to go for a road blockade.
The Joint Action Committee or the JAC comprises of the eleven Dorbar Shnong namely Ratacherra, Dona Umbluh, Dona Skul, Umkiang, Lumphyllut, Lumsoski, Pyrtakuna, Borsara, Kuliang, Shymplong & Tongseng village, Elaka Narpuh.
The JAC has been formed on Saturday for taking appropriate action and steps in connection with the deplorable condition of NH-6 in their villages.
The JAC leaders submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong at Shillong on Thursday.
According to the JAC, due to the pathetic conditions of the highway particularly from Lumshnong to Malidor, there is frequent breakdown of vehicles and daily traffic congestion, which lasts for more than 5-6 hours disrupting normal lives to a very large extent.
The memorandum said the problem is an annual phenomenon as the NHAI never undertakes proper repair work for the road to last long but only undertakes paste repair work just for the sake of repairing with no long term adjustment.
They also informed that the problem of mud slide at Sonapur tunnel though is a regular affair yet the NHAI did not take any concrete action to solve the problem.
The JAC urged the government to take the responsibility to ensure that NHAI repair and rehabilitate the road immediately. The local residents have pledged to close the national highway if there is any delay to immediately undertake repair work along the damaged portion.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed the JAC leaders that work orders have been issued for proper rehabilitation of the road and it would commence immediately.
