Cong demands CBI inquiry into illegal coal trade

Congress leader and former cabinet minister Deborah Marak on Friday demanded the state government to institute a CBI probe into the alleged illegal coal trade in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Marak said, “We demand the state government to immediately institute an independent inquiry into the matter.”

She informed that illegal trucks are plying everywhere and through Dainadubi and Gasuapara.

She alleged that there are many middlemen and dallas who are involved in the coal racket. “Not just the Jai Maa Enterprise but there are many local boys who are also involved and work hand in hand and collected lots of money (from the trucks),” she said.

The Congress leader also asserted the need to investigate and take action against these middlemen.

She further demanded that the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma should also ask his brother and cabinet minister James K Sangma to immediately step down if he is found involved in the scam.

“However, unless and until you do a proper independent inquiry then only you will know exactly what is happening in this government. Always we talk about corruption and inquiries are not happening, we don’t understand,” Marak said.

“Therefore, to know the truth, they should invite an independent group to do proper inquiry into it. If they can invite CBI then they can club together all the scams alleged by the people against the government,” she further added.
