Cong demands Centre to roll back price of petroleum products
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre to roll back the price of petroleum products.
In a statement issued on Monday, the MPCC condemned the attitude of the BJP led union government which has targeted the petroleum products as the sole weapon to generate revenue since it came to power in 2014.
“(We) demand the government of India should immediately roll back the price of petroleum products to mitigate the genuine demands of all the sections of stakeholders,” it said.
Extending its full support to the ongoing strike called by the Meghalaya Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicles (MJACCV), the MPCC also demanded the government of Meghalaya to take seriously this issue with the central government for immediate roll back in the astronomically high price of the petroleum products.
It also observed that a mere reduction of Rs 2 in the price by the government of Meghalaya is of no consequence. At the same time it should be reminded as prices of petroleum products were always lower in Meghalaya than that in Assam and today it is the reverse.
The MPCC also reminded the government of Meghalaya that this group (commercial vehicles) had already been in starvation during lockdown and government is adding their miseries by increasing the tax irrationally.
Meghalaya PCC recalls that since the beginning, AICC have been launching a series of agitations throughout the country against undue rise in the price of petroleum products including LPG in spite of the facts that the price of petroleum crude in the international market is all time low.
It also reminded that the price of petroleum products in neighboring developing countries is far lower than the price in India.
