Cong on confidence-building mode in Assam after LS poll results, to reset organisation
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will go for a massive reshuffle after the results of the Lok Sabha election is out, APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah said here on Monday.
“After the results, we will go for a massive reshuffle in the party. We will try to build the confidence of the people in the Congress party. The party functionaries will be changed depending on their performance in the last three years,” Borah told reporters on the sideline of a meeting to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Udalbakra here.
“We will stay away from cheap politics with BJP and other parties. But we will approach the people. Our workers will be given lessons on politics and the economy to face people in the 2026 elections. Our organization at the grassroot level will be strengthened,” Borah said.
When asked about the third front politics, Borah said: “We want to work above such politics. In the coming days, we will not spare time with the criticism only. But we want to build up a vision of the party. We will organize four seminars after holding the meeting of the political affairs committee.”
“We will organize a seminar on the tea industry in Assam. Our focus will be on the growth of the ta industry. We will interact with all big and small tea growers, both leaf factory owners, and traders to find out a solution to the present crisis,” he said.
“We are also holding two seminars on agriculture, irrigation, veterinary and livestock. We will focus on the revolutionise the agri sector in the state,” he also said.
“We are also holding another seminar on the education sector. We will discuss the issues of teachers and students,” he further said.
As regards election results, Borah said: “Based on the statement of Kapil Sibal yesterday, we started giving training to our counting agents for the counting of votes for Lok Sabha elections. If the EVMs are okay, our vote share will be increased and the number of seats will also be increased this time.”
“We have our own survey, but we do not want to disclose that. Our workers are hopeful of a good show this election,” he said.
Regarding five MLAs supporting the BJP-led government, he said: “It is a technical issue. Our opposition leader has moved the Speaker for their disqualification. He has already made a written submission to the speaker. We suspend them from the party and hence seek their disqualification from the house.
“It is the speaker’s decision. It is good if the speaker honours the past glory of the chair and disqualifies the five MLAs. If he does not disqualify them, we have to move the court. If we expel them, we can’t demand their disqualification,” he added.
