Cong slams Govt for frequent load shedding
The opposition Congress has slammed the National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for its failure to address the power crisis leading to frequent imposition of load shedding in the state.
“As a government you should decide will there be or won’t there be load shedding. Why are you fooling the public,” Congress leader and East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh told reporters here.
“You say that you are the only government that is able to address the problem of deficit power supply to the state of Meghalaya in a short period of time, why is it since once again you bring load shedding without warning the public,” she also asked.
The MLA further added, “You sent out a message at 8 pm to the people of the state and at 12 o’ clock you shut down our lights. What is going to happen to the essential services.
Were hospitals prepared, were police stations prepared, what about funerals, weddings – are all these individuals told that from today or from tomorrow there will be no power in Meghalaya.”
Accusing the government of taking the people of the state for granted, Lyngdoh said that the government should be questioned by the citizens.
“The fact that we told you that it would have been better for you to conserve power from the month of October (last year) for two hours that we could use it in the lean period, you went ahead and said that you are smarter than all but today we stand to lose and we stand to suffer,” she stated.
