Congress announces first list of 26 candidates for KHADC, JHADC polls
The opposition Congress on Thursday announced the first list of 26 candidates for the upcoming elections to the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills, slated to be held on February 21.
The party has finalized 15 candidates from Khasi Hills and 11 candidates from Jaintia Hills, after a rigorous selection process involving the Block Congress Committee (BCC), District Congress Committees (DSC), and the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC), the Congress said in a statement.
“The selected candidates represent a blend of fresh faces, qualified professionals, and individuals trained to serve effectively in their roles. This lineup underscores the Congress’ commitment to bringing in capable and dynamic leadership, dedicated to the welfare and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya,” the party said while adding “As we move closer to the elections, we appeal to the voters of Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills to place their trust in the Congress and our candidates. The party remains steadfast in safeguarding the provisions of the Sixth Schedule and upholding the rights and interests of the tribal communities.”
“We believe that the people of Meghalaya will give a clear mandate to the Congress, enabling us to continue our mission of progress, development, and justice for all.
Together, let us strengthen democracy and work towards a brighter future for Meghalaya,” it added.
The 15 candidates for KHADC polls include Dominic Mynsong-Mawhati, Rocky A Marwein-Umsning, Jonathan Syiem-Sohryngkham, Hilarius Warbah-Mawkynrew, Astarland Khyllep-Shella, Banphiralang Basaiawmoit-Mylliem, Allan Victor Lyngdoh-Nongthymmai, Manuel Badwar-Laitumkhrah-Malki, Pynshngainlang Syiem-Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Gerald Shullai-Jaiaw-Mawprem, Wanseng Jyrwa-Mawlai, Nathaniel Rymmai- Nongspung-Sohiong, Lawanpynshngain War-Mairang-Nongkhlaw, Bormanding Nonglang-Rambrai Jyrngam and Medal Sing Lyngdoh-Mawkyrwat.
The 11 candidates for JHADC polls are Romeo Lyngdoh-War Central, Madonbai Rymbai-Amwi-Khliehtyrchi, Jona Rynjah-Moodymmai-Nongkhroh, Pyrkhatbha Pyrphet-Mynsngat-Khanduli, Banikas Laban-Barato-Mukroh, Rikut Parien-Saphai-Sahsniang, Welpard Suchiang-Raliang, J Treilang Suchiang-Shangpung, Yooniki Phawa-Muthlong Sohkynphor, Siril Suja-Sutnga Nongkhlieh and Grimlang Dkhar-Narpuh.
