Congress asks MDA Govt to be transparent on its stand over HNLC’s offer for peace talks
The opposition Congress on Wednesday asked the MDA-led state government to be transparent on its stand regarding the peace talks offered by the banned outfit – Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
“They (government) have to be transparent on their stand. What is the stand of the government? They have to be transparent. They have to make it abundantly clear to the people that is what we are saying, we don’t even know what is the stand of the government,” Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma told reporters.
Asked, the former Chief Minister said, “Let them make it abundantly clear and convey it accordingly then we know other things will fall in line. Whether they should further offer or not then only we will know but that has to be made abundantly clear in a transparent manner as we don’t know what is the stand of the government.”
Earlier last week, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had informed that the state government had received a letter from the HNLC on January 16, this year expressing its willingness to come forward for peace talks.
The Chief Minister however informed that the government of India had pointed out that some of the conditions put forth by the HNLC were not acceptable and therefore, they must submit another letter “without those conditions”.
